HÉGLI DUSAN - Artistic Director

Dusán Hegli was born in Párkány in 1971. Whilst still at primary school he studied violin at the Liszt Ferenc Music School. Whilst at high school he also danced and taught firstly with the Szőttes Kamara Dance Group in Bratislava and later Ifju Szivek Dance Theatre. From 1989 his own choreographies were being performed. His novel choreographic approach and reflective works caught the attention of other professionals both in Slovakia and Hungary. In 1993 as the artistic director of the Szőttes Dance Group, he created his first full evening performance. In 1999 he was awarded the position of Director of the Ifju Szivek Dance Group. Under his direction the group became a professional, important and sought after group within the Carpathian Basin's Hungarian dance revival movement. With a top quality professional dance troupe, from 2000 onwards the group has presented a new production every year.

These days Hegli has become a world wide name with many choreographies to his credit. In his productions, his believable interpretation of traditional dance culture and thoughtful dramatic structure together form his inspiring artistic style. The music, stage, lighting and costume make the difference, working together to create a new language of expression for traditional dance.

He continues to work freelance for amateur and professional dance groups and creates new choreographies for groups both at home and overseas. He has both performed and taught dance with the Varsányi band and the Tükrös band in Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Germany, Austria, Venezuela and Australia.

Besides his usual work he has, firstly as the director of the Slovak-Hungarian Folklore Association and then as artistic director of Ifju Szivek, organised and participated in many different projects, for example festivals, seminars, dance workshops, organising the university dance/artist degree in Bratislava and the high school arts/dance stream. He is responsible for producing many professional CDs and is currently completing his Hungarian Dance/Artist-Education degree in Budapest.
