TÁNCISKOLA 2. (Dance School 2)

We advise that child guidance is recommended for all adults!

Ifju Szivek Dance Theatre feels a responsibility to bring the music and dance culture of the Carpathian Basin to people at a young age. To help them become familiar with it, enjoy it and respect the cultural and regional differences in the dance. We have put together a children's theatre production that presents the music and dance in a familiar and accessible way, to encourage interest and attention from children at a young age.

Tánciskola 2 (Dance School 2) was created in 2006, following on from Tánciskola it is also designed especially for children and covers information and areas generally not taught in schools. Tánciskola 2 takes a historical look at the music & dance of the Carpathian Mountains, with particular emphasis on its many different colours and shades. As a whole, the show looks at the complete dance culture and each of its different ethnicities – Hungarian, Slovakia, Romanian and Gypsy.

In the performance it is what comes with the dance, the songs, music, costume and traditions, that is given particular emphasis, or rather makes the show more accessible and enjoyable. The show itself re-creates the familiar atmosphere and situations found in a school playground, humour, games, teasing, squabbling and friendship. These are used to portray the dance history and vise versa. The songs, music and dance together express everything found alive in a person, community or small group.

The dance school timetable is once again printed on the back of the program to help the children conjure up and follow up the different dances they have seen in the show at home.

The success of the production indicates that the music and dance of the Carpathian region is equally appealing to the young and the older generations and inspires us to carry on.

“You can rest assured that any Ifju Szivek performance will have within it the unbelievable spontaneity, the complete authenticity that their dancing conveys. From this the audience feels that they are not watching a 'production' but rather that they have fallen right into the middle of a celebration. In fact, there is not only dance going on on stage. There is much more. Its totally energizing! The proof : Our partners were forced, tired after work and ready to conk out, to escort us to the performance. After Tánciskola 2 they realised with surprise, that the tiredness had gone and they felt totally re-energized!”
