Ifju Szivek Dance Theatre is a professional state funded ensemble. Based in Bratislava, Slovakia we focus on the traditional dance and music of the Carpathian Basin with an aim to bring a greater appreciation of this music and dance culture, both within and outside of Slovakia. There are many different ethnic cultures living within the Carpathian Basin, each with their own dance and music styles. Our work includes examples of many of these, but particularly focuses on the traditional Hungarian and Slovak dance and music culture.
Our repatoire includes performances designed for both adults and specifically for children. These present the traditional dance and music with particular attention to style and regional differences. All our work is adapted for stage in a modern and creative way, without undermining the strength and beauty of the authentic dance and music culture.
The group performes regularly across Slovakia and has toured extensively throughout Europe and abroad. Performing at festivals, teaching and presenting our own concerts in America, Switzerland, Sweden and Australia to name a few.
As well as performing the group actively participates in initialising and organising related events within the country. We have and extensive archive of music and dance recordings collected throughout the twentieth century. And we are particularly interested in encouraging and strengthening the music and dance culture as a living tradition.
